Abstract

The Finance and administration records contain eight subseries documenting operations in Canada, the U.K. and the Caribbean. Subseries B. Treasury contains corporate documentation of Canadian, U.K. and a few other companies including minute books, articles of incorporation and dissolution, and financial reports. Correspondence documents Canadian, Jamaican, U.K. and Latin American companies and includes annual reports, stockholder correspondence, inventories and records of operations; agreement files pertain to litigation involving the company's Canadian subsidiaries; and audited financial statements include reports on Canadian, Caribbean and U.K. companies and other miscellaneous financial reports. The subseries also contains tax returns and related working papers; plant appraisals listing buildings, construction, equipment and values; and documentation of canceled trademarks. Subseries C. Office of the Vice President of Finance and Treasury includes audited financial statements on Canadian subsidiaries; Finance Canada publications; and Controllers' reports. Subseries D. Accounting contains some of the oldest company records. Correspondence files include information about early company finances, operations, development of the LaSalle plant, and contacts in Saint Pierre and Miquelon. Financial reports and corporate records pertain mainly to the 1927-1935 activities of Distillers Corporation Ltd., Distillers Corporation-Seagrams Ltd., and Britcan Investments. Records in this section also document the agreements and developing business relationship between Distillers Company Ltd. and Seagram. Other files include corporate documentation and financial reports for early subsidiaries; whisky inventories; staff information; and 1929-1934 sales and consignment records for locales including Belize, Bahamas, Bermuda and St. Pierre and Miquelon. Subseries E. Control Services includes financial statements, balance sheets, financial memoranda, working papers and other reports for Distillers Corporation-Seagrams Ltd. and Canadian subsidiaries and, in a few cases, overseas subsidiaries. It also includes Plant Accounting records such as financial statements, general ledgers, balance sheets, working papers and other financial records of Canadian subsidiary companies and cased goods reports on sales and exports, advertising, imports and other subjects. Subseries F. Comptroller contains financial records including those documenting the companies participation in Expo c67 and use of the company jet. Subseries G. Tax Department includes correspondence, tax forms and working papers regarding taxation of Canadian companies and financial reports such as depreciation schedules, fixed assets, balance sheets, and drawback claims regarding customs duties; and records regarding international trade and tax issues and trademarks. Subseries H. Personnel contains union contracts with two LaSalle affiliates of the Distillery, Rectifying, Wine and Allied Workers' International Union of America (A.F.L.); organizational charts and staffing numbers for plants, the central office and management; records regarding personnel, bonuses, employment forecasts, retirement and pension, and promotions and personnel records including documentation of union activities, accident reports, and employment surveys from the LaSalle, Quebec plant.
